At SANKOTSUYAMA, we accept pre-bookings for natural burials. The cost of pre-booking varies depending on the age of the deceased at the time of application. The earlier you pre-book, the more economical the pre-booking. To apply for a pre-booking, you first submit a "special form" to confirm your wishes. This is a provisional application before payment is made. We will then mail you a "Consent Form," which you must fill out and return. Once payment is confirmed, your application will be finalized. The "Consent Form" is a document that asks a third party to consent to the scattering of ashes. A family member, a representative of the surviving family, or a friend must be selected as the person consenting to the scattering, and that person must sign the document agreeing to the scattering. A copy of identification showing the deceased's date of birth must also be submitted.
Pre-bookings for natural burials are applied to the "Forest Scattering with Presence Plan." This plan allows surviving family members to visit the grave for many years to come. If no one is available to be present for the scattering, our staff will perform the scattering. In this case, the plan will be the "Forest Scattering/Individual Scattering Agency Plan." Pre-booking a natural burial is significantly cheaper than post-mortem applications, so please consider pre-booking a natural burial as a valued plan. Typically, for the "Forest Scattering/Attendance Scattering Plan" and the "Forest Scattering/Individual Scattering Agency Plan," you are required to specify the forest where the ashes will be scattered. You can also specify this when pre-booking. While there are many cases where you leave the location of the scattering to us, please rest assured that we will handle the scattering ceremony responsibly in either case. If you do not specify a forest, we will consult with the person who consented and scatter the ashes in a forest that is agreed upon by the person.
Many of our inquiries involve a request to "visit the site in advance," but at present, we are unable to provide such information. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. In the past, advance notice has led to unkind individuals scattering ashes without permission, causing inconvenience to existing customers. For this reason, we do not provide advance notice of the location to those who have not yet applied. However, we understand that some people may want to have some idea of where their ashes will be scattered, so if you call us, we will provide you with a general idea of the location. We appreciate your understanding.
The fee for pre-booking a natural burial scattering ceremony is calculated on a pro rata basis, depending on the individual's age at the time of application. The calculation is: "Total payment = age x 1,000 yen + consumption tax." For example, if an 80-year-old makes a pre-booking, the fee would be 80,000 yen plus consumption tax. This means the total would be 88,000 yen (tax included). For comparison, a 70-year-old would pay 77,000 yen (tax included), a 65-year-old would pay 71,500 yen (tax included), a 58-year-old would pay 63,800 yen (tax included), and a 42-year-old would pay 46,200 yen (tax included). Please consider making a reservation in advance, as the earlier you apply, the more advantageous it will be. Please rest assured that there are no additional fees after scattering the ashes.
